Record numbers of reformers gathered in Washington, DC, recently to explore ways to extend their growing influence far beyond drugs.

“I’m Ross Ulbricht’s father,” said the gray-haired man on the stage. “Ross was arrested two years ago and convicted. He was sentenced to double life in prison a few months back and is now appealing his sentence. I’m here as his advocate.”

His story was unusual in that his 31-year-old son, Ross, aka “Dread Pirate Roberts,” founded Silk Road, the pioneering deep-web, drug-dominated marketplace that was shut down by the FBI in October 2013. Devastating prison sentences, on the other hand, have long been normal in the US.

GRASP Retreat 2014

February 27th, to March 2nd. Hyatt Palm Springs.

Date: September 11 – 14
Location: The Double Tree, Tampa Fl

The 2014 GRASP Retreat will be held September 11 to 14, at the Double Tree hotel in Tampa, Florida.  Please mark your calendar now.  Like 2012, we will again have:

  • Thursday: registration and an opening reception.
  • Friday-Saturday (9am to 4:00pm): meetings, with lunch provided both days.
  • Saturday (evening): group dinner.

The educational meetings will include new and returning speakers specializing in grief and healing and harm reduction. We will also offer training in lifesaving overdose prevention/naloxone administration. And of course we will have experts in advocacy to teach us how to become part of the solution to this epidemic.
