There are politically motivated people who attempt to co-opt the grief of a parent who has lost a child to overdose to implement more punitive drug laws. Susan knows these laws cause only more harm and more deaths. She has dedicated her life to supporting policies and interventions she knows to save lives, including those of public health and Harm Reduction, so that no other parent has to suffer the primal loss of a child to a preventable overdose.
